DBS Bank Ltd is a multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Marina Bay, Singapore. Founded on 16 July 1968 by the Government of Singapore to take over the industrial financing activities from the Economic Development Board,  the bank’s key purpose was to offer loans and financial aid to the manufacturing and processing industries and to assist establish and upgrade existing industries in Singapore. In 1960, the Singapore government invited a United Nations (UN) industrial survey mission to assess the economical situation in Singapore and to come up with an industrialisation programme for the city.The plan included setting up a development bank, together with an economic body to attract foreign investments and provide financing and managing the industrial estates. The bank was incorporated in July 1968 and began operations in September of the same year
POSB Bank (or simply called POSB) is a Singaporean bank offering consumer banking services and is the earliest bank in constant operation in Singapore. Established on January 1, 1877 as the Post Office Savings Bank, the bank now operates as part of DBS Bank, which acquired the institution and its subsidiaries on November 16, 1998.
Prior to its acquisition, the bank was a significant public bank offering affordable banking services to Singaporeans. DBS Bank attempts to continue this tradition by promising to keep expenses low for standard savings accounts, and to exempt kids, full-time trainees listed below the age of 21 years and full-time National Troop from bank charges.
