DBS Bank Ltd is a multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Marina Bay, Singapore. Established on 16 July 1968 by the Government of Singapore to manage the industrial financing activities from the Economic Development Board,  the bank’s prime purpose was to provide loans and financial aid to the manufacturing and processing industries and to assist establish and upgrade existing industries in Singapore. In 1960, the Singapore government invited a United Nations (UN) industrial survey mission to assess the economical situation in Singapore and to come up with an industrialisation programme for the city.The plan included setting up a development bank, also an economic body to attract foreign investments and provide financing and managing the industrial estates. The bank was incorporated in July 1968 and began operations in September of the same year
Based on January 1, 1877 as the Post Office Savings Bank (POSB), the bank belonged to the Postal Provider Department in the Straits Settlements and was set up by the colonial federal government to supply banking services for lower-income citizens.Headquartered in the General Post Office Building, in Raffles Location, the bank was under the jurisdiction of the Postmaster-General, with bank policies supervised by a group of trustees appointed by the Guv of the Straits Settlement. From 1877 to 1940, the bank had a stable development of accounts opened increasing from 211 to 57,000 while total deposits increased from 19,862 to 14.3 million Straits dollars during the exact same period.
